Microsoft used a “hash” algorithm to determine files being uploaded by defendant were child pornography.  Microsoft informed a law enforcement task force of the findings.  The court ruled this was private action and not government action since the government did not ask Microsoft to undertake the inquiry.  Therefore it was not a “search” under the Fourth Amendment.
